Pink Dogwood Wedding Cake
We made this pink and white dogwood wedding cake for a small wedding. It will serve 45-60 guests.
The bottom tier is 10" and the top tier is 8". The cake uses different types of cake decorating elements. The eye-catching decorations are the 5 pink dogwood flowers on the top of the cake.
The cake is covered in
Satin Ice White Fondant.
6 large
boba straws were inserted into the 10" tier to
support the 8" tier on top.
The dogwood flowers were made using
Satin Ice Gum Paste. We used the dogwood flower cutter in the
Wilton Gum Paste Flower Set. The gum paste was tinted a pale baby pink using a very small amount
AmeriColor gel color in Electric Pink. The center was tinted in a light mint green using a small amount of
Wilton Kelly Green with a dot of brown. The center of the dogwood was molded using the Wilton Silicone Impression Set.
The gold highlights were made using
gold luster dust mixed with a few drops of vodka and painted on with a paint brush.
The lattice work on top of the cake is piped royal icing. Used a
#2 Wilton round piping tip. See the
video on this cake showing more detail on designing the lattice work.
The small pink flowers are made from
Satin Ice Gum Paste and tinted in varying shades of light pink using
Americolor gel colors. We used the blossom cutters and impression mat in the
Wilton Gum Paste Flower Set.
The drop lines, pearl borders, and pearl accents were piped in royal icing using a
#3 Wilton round tip. The reverse shells on the bottom tier were piped using a
#32 Wilton shell piping tip.
The gold accents on the pearls was
painted gold luster dust mixed with vodka.
